Our Organization

Founded in 2003 as the Windham Region No Freeze Project, Project HOPE provides compassionate housing and homeless services for Eastern Connecticut.

Our organization has evolved from a cold-weather shelter into a comprehensive housing services provider. Our new name reflects our expanded reach and year-round mission.

The word HOPE reflects the breadth of our services: Housing, Outreach, Prevention, and Emergency shelter. More than an acronym, HOPE is what we strive to give the people we serve every day. Through our expanded services, we empower individuals to regain control of their lives.

Our History

Our History

Founded in 2003 after a person died of exposure during a deep winter freeze, our organization was the collective effort of community activists, nonprofits, faith groups, and civic organizations. Over the years, our grassroots seasonal shelter moved repeatedly until we purchased our permanent home in 2022. Just like the people we serve, having a stable, dependable home has allowed Project HOPE to grow and thrive, providing compassionate housing and homeless services for Eastern Connecticut.

Our Supporters

Our organization endures thanks to the unwavering support of those who believe in our mission and share our values. We extend our deepest gratitude to our many individual benefactors and to these organizations.
